Survey results byWall Street Journalreleased on October 11 shows that US Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are neck and neck in seven battleground states. The survey was conducted from September 28 to October 8 with 600 registered voters in each state, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 2 percentage points in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, but trails by 6 and 1 percentage points in Nevada and Pennsylvania, respectively. The two candidates are tied in North Carolina and Wisconsin.

The survey also found that 50% of voters in battleground states believe former President Trump would handle the Ukraine conflict better than Ms. Harris, while only 37% said the opposite. The Republican candidate also received 48% support when asked who would be better to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, compared to 33% for his opponent.

Many voters also expressed support for Mr. Trump on immigration and the economy, while Ms. Harris is believed to do better on housing, health care and voter engagement.

Experts say the reason voters trust Mr. Trump on the issues of Ukraine and the Gaza Strip is because the world did not have any conflicts of the same magnitude when the former US President was in office.

"When Trump was president, we didn't have any wars. The world is more unstable under President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris, and there's also internal debate within the Democratic Party over the Israel-Hamas issue," said David Lee, a Republican pollster who worked on the survey.

Former President Trump repeatedly said he would resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of his election, but did not elaborate on how he would do so. Both Moscow and Kiev expressed skepticism about this statement.

The results of the survey in the battleground states are considered an important indicator of the US presidential candidate's chances of winning. If Vice President Harris wins in the states where she leads Mr. Trump in the Wall Street Journal poll, the Democratic candidate will gain more electoral votes to become the head of the White House.

According to the survey resultsReuters/IpsosAccording to a poll released this week, Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are neck and neck nationally, with the US vice president having a 46% approval rating, three percentage points higher than his opponent.
