Boiler explosion in Dong Nai, 6 people died

At around 8:30 a.m., a loud explosion suddenly erupted from Binh Minh Wood Production and Trading Company Limited in Vam Hamlet, Thien Tan Commune, Vinh Cuu District, startling many people. At the scene, part of the wood workshop collapsed, was severely damaged, and pieces of corrugated iron were scattered everywhere.

"I was in the house when I suddenly heard a loud noise. When I ran there, I saw a horrifying scene. Furniture was flying everywhere and there were many bodies in the yard," said Mr. Hung in Vam hamlet, Thien Tan commune.

According to a relative of a deceased victim, the workers had just entered the furnace to repair it for about 3 minutes when the explosion occurred. "My group was working about 300 meters away and still saw sparks, at that time everyone panicked and ran away," this person said.

Ms. Lac Thi Nam, 34 years old, who works in the packaging area about 80 meters from the boiler, said that this boiler is burned with firewood to get steam to suck sawdust and spray paint. Before the incident, the boiler was not working, then a worker went to fix it and it exploded.

A leader of Thien Tan commune said that initially, 6 people were confirmed dead and 5 injured in the boiler explosion. Initial information showed that there were about 30 workers working in the area where the accident occurred.

According to the report of Vinh Cuu District Police, the 6 victims (32-39 years old) who died in the explosion include: Lo Van Lon, from Son La; Luong Van Hung, from Nghe An; Tran Van Nguyen, from Bac Giang; Tran Van Cuong, from Bac Lieu; Son Ngoc Thuy, from Soc Trang; Xie Xhenlong (Chinese nationality).

In the immediate future, Dong Nai will support each victim who died in the work accident with 20 million VND, and 10 million VND for injured victims.

Dr. Nguyen Tuong Quang, Deputy Director of Thong Nhat General Hospital - Dong Nai, said that the unit has received 5 victims (34-44 years old) injured in the explosion. Three cases have been operated on and transferred to the operating room for surgery, of which one person suffered multiple injuries. The hospital has mobilized all staff to participate in the treatment.

Dong Nai Department of Health has also activated "red alert" mode to mobilize forces from major hospitals and several other medical facilities to support treatment for victims of the explosion.

Binh Minh Wood Production and Trading Company Limited has been operating for more than 10 years. According to business registration information, this was initially a domestic private enterprise, but in 2017 this unit changed its legal representative, had FDI capital, and the director was Chinese. The company specializes in exploiting, manufacturing and trading wood products.
