Many children in Hai Duong hospitalized due to flu complications

On the afternoon of April 8, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cong, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hai Duong Children's Hospital, said that over the past weekend, the number of children infected with influenza requiring treatment has increased dramatically. The Department of Infectious Diseases is treating over 80 children, of which over 50% are infected with influenza A and influenza B.

Unlike previous years, children were admitted to the hospital mainly due to influenza A virus infection, recently in the department, most children have influenza B. Of the 40 patients infected with influenza, more than 30 children have influenza B, the rest have influenza A. Some patients have complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis, otitis media, myositis, difficulty walking, etc. Doctors have actively treated children when they are admitted to the department, so other serious complications have been minimized, and no cases of respiratory failure have been recorded.

Children with flu are of many ages, in the department most are children under 3 years old because their resistance is still weak, the disease has a more severe progression than in older children.

Not only are there many children with flu, but children with other respiratory diseases are also increasing rapidly. The Respiratory Department of the Children's Hospital is also full of beds with nearly 90 children being treated. Of which, nearly 40% of children infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are concentrated in the group of children under 2 years old.

According to Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Deputy Head of the Respiratory Department, over 90% of children are treated at home by their families. The main reason for the increase in children being hospitalized is due to the current changing weather, hot and cold weather, and high humidity, which are ideal conditions for viruses and bacteria to attack children.
