On the first day of arriving at CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Hai Duong branch (Cam Giang), Mr. Nguyen Van Tu from Vinh Hung commune (Binh Giang) was surprised by the spacious, airy factory with lots of trees like in a park. "The inside of the factory is airy and dust-free. The company has a separate department in charge of occupational safety and hygiene," said Mr. Tu.

Since choosing to locate the factory in Hai Duong, CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Hai Duong branch of Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) of Thailand, has attached great importance to the goal of building a green and safe factory. The company has dedicated 3 hectares, accounting for about 30% of the factory area, to planting flowers and trees, creating a friendly working space. In some workshops, the company applies soundproofing, noise isolation, and ventilation technology to help workers work comfortably and pleasantly.

Mr. Tran Nguyen Hoc, manager of the company's Safety - Health - Environment Department, said that the bonus and salary increase for each worker always includes the factor of good implementation of labor safety commitments. "When each worker has a good awareness in complying with the machine operation process and is fully equipped with labor protection equipment, it will contribute to building a safe factory. In 2023, the company was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs for its outstanding achievements in ensuring labor safety and hygiene," said Mr. Hoc.

In 2023, Hai Duong had 145 work accidents with 156 victims, a decrease of 6.5% in the number of accidents and 6.4% in the number of victims compared to 2022. According to Mr. Bui Quoc Trinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the number of accidents decreased because many businesses and production facilities have paid more attention to labor safety, improved working conditions, and built safe factory models.

Identifying the role of occupational safety and hygiene in production, Makalot Vietnam Garment Company Limited (Thanh Ha) has established a 9-member occupational safety and hygiene council, clearly defining the functions, tasks and responsibilities of each person in ensuring occupational safety. The unit also assigned 2 specialized officers to work on occupational safety and hygiene to coordinate with the company's network of occupational safety and hygiene workers to periodically inspect the implementation of occupational safety and hygiene regulations in production teams and areas. Thanks to that, for many consecutive years, the company has been a typical unit in ensuring occupational safety and hygiene. In recent years, the enterprise has not had any occupational accidents or fires.

Stick with the factory

A safe working environment is one of the factors that helps employees feel secure in their work, increase productivity, and stay with the company. This is also one of the criteria to evaluate whether a company ensures safety and hygiene conditions at work or not. According to the Provincial Council for Occupational Safety and Hygiene, where companies and production facilities pay attention to the working environment of employees, there are fewer accidents and it is easier to recruit workers when there is a shortage of human resources.

According to Mr. Do Van Sanh, Head of the Propaganda and Women's Union (Provincial Labor Federation), implementing good hygiene and labor safety work creates favorable conditions for employers and employees to have a good working environment in the enterprise. This is an important criterion for evaluating safe and quality enterprises. Places that implement good factory safety criteria often effectively prevent work accidents and occupational diseases, have fewer labor disputes, and have a more harmonious relationship between business owners and employees.

The 2024 Occupational Safety and Hygiene Action Month has the theme "Strengthening occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace and in the supply chain".
