Hung Yen Provincial Police are investigating the case of a high school male student suspected of murdering his grandmother and then setting fire to the house.
On the afternoon of March 19, Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Minh Commune (Khoai Chau District) said that Hung Yen Provincial Police are investigating a murder case that occurred in Da Hoa Village, Binh Minh Commune, Khoai Chau District. The suspect was identified as the victim's nephew.
"The forensic team is currently working, and initial results will be available on the afternoon of March 19," said Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Binh Minh Commune, at around 4:00 a.m. the same day, people discovered the house of a 73-year-old woman on fire. Neighbors tried to contact the victim but were unsuccessful. When the fire was extinguished, people found the old woman's body in a pond in the yard.
Immediately afterwards, the provincial police force and local police arrived, sealed off the scene and conducted an investigation.
Through initial verification, the police identified the suspect as the victim’s grandson, currently a 10th grade student. According to the leader of Binh Minh commune, this male student was addicted to games and had a conflict with his grandmother the night before. Authorities believe that the suspect may have used a weapon to kill his grandmother and then set fire to the house.
"The police arrested the teenager at a game shop in the commune and are investigating to clarify the case and determine whether there are accomplices," said the leader of Binh Minh commune. According to Mr. Hung, the suspect's father is currently working in Japan and the suspect lives with his grandmother.
