On January 22, Mr. To Van Hung, Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Party Committee (Da Nang City) on behalf of the local government visited the family of Mr. Tran Thanh (31 years old, residing in Nhon Tho 1 village, Hoa Phuoc commune, Hoa Vang district). Mr. Thanh is the victim in the case of a male shipper who was allegedly beaten to death on the evening of January 17.

At the visit, Mr. Tran Bui Quoc Binh, Chairman of Hoa Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that the police have detained 3 subjects related to the case for investigation.

The leader of Hoa Vang District Police confirmed that they are investigating this case.

At the old house where Thanh’s family lives, everyone is heartbroken by the victim’s sudden death. Thanh’s 5-year-old daughter keeps asking “Grandpa, where is dad?”, making everyone choke up.

Mr. Tran Viet Thong (55 years old, Thanh's father) said that his son works as a shipper to support his wife and young daughter. Thanh is a hard-working person. In addition to delivering goods, Thanh also catches snails and fishes to improve his family's meals. Not having enough money to build a house, Thanh's family is living at the family temple.

Mr. Thong recounted that on the night of the incident, Mr. Thanh returned home from Giang Nam 2 village (Hoa Phuoc commune) looking tired and with disheveled clothes. At that time, Mr. Thanh told his wife that he had been beaten while delivering goods, then lay down on the bed. Mr. Thanh's wife thought her husband was sleeping so she did not pay attention to anything. A while later, the wife was shocked to discover that her husband had died and there was no time to take him to the emergency room.

According to Mr. Thong, the family was then instructed by the Hoa Vang District Police to complete the autopsy procedure. At this time, the family learned that the cause of Thanh's death was a traumatic brain injury.

Mr. Thong hopes that the police will strictly handle the perpetrators to deter and restore justice for his son.

A representative of the Hoa Phuoc commune government said the victim’s family’s economic situation was difficult. Thanh’s wife did not have a stable job. Both sides of the family were unable to support the family.

Hearing this, Mr. To Van Hung, Secretary of Hoa Vang District Party Committee, suggested that Hoa Phuoc commune create favorable conditions and encourage the mother and son to continue living in the locality. In the immediate future, Thanh's family will be classified as poor households to enjoy social security policies.
