According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, authorities have set up committees to assess the damage in the affected areas. Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Agriculture Minister Andrei Razin said that preventive measures have been taken to minimize the impact of the extreme weather on agricultural production. He affirmed that the country's agricultural exports will not be affected.

The unusual cold snap in May cost Russia 1% of its agricultural output. A total of 21 regions were affected by the cold and more than 700,000 hectares of agricultural land lost their productivity.

According to a report by Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut, the cold snap has unexpectedly returned to Central Russia, the Volga Basin and the South, damaging more than 1 million hectares of crops, or 1.2% of the total cultivated area, forcing replanting. However, Russia’s grain production forecast remains unchanged at 132 million tonnes and olive production at 28 million tonnes. This is enough to fully satisfy the domestic market and maintain exports.

In early May, central Russia recorded temperatures below normal, ranging from 8-10 degrees Celsius. The first half of May was the coldest in the history of the world's largest country.
