Dozens of trains to India's capital New Delhi were delayed on January 1 due to limited visibility caused by thick fog.
Several states in India, including the capital region, have been shrouded in smog as temperatures have dropped.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thick fog was observed in the states of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
Authorities said 21 trains to the Delhi region were delayed, with many more than four hours behind schedule, leaving passengers waiting at stations.
