Some top universities have announced that they will not use the admission method based on academic records in 2024. Typically, the National Economics University will reserve 18% of its quota for considering high school graduation exam scores. Hanoi University of Science and Technology will also not use the admission method based on academic records but reserve 50% of its quota for considering high school graduation exam scores. Hanoi Medical University will also not use the admission method based on academic records...

There are many reasons why some universities have stopped recruiting students based on their high school transcripts, including the fact that university academic results are not consistent with their high school transcripts. This reason is believed to be because some high school students’ scores are not true to their abilities, and high schools can easily grade students to help them achieve their high school transcripts’ admission scores.

In addition, some universities and academies have also planned to accept admission scores based on the 2024 high school graduation exam scores with quite high scores such as: National Economics University, University of Commerce, and are expected to accept applications from 20 points or more. In the Southern region, some schools such as: Vietnam Aviation Academy, University of Economics and Law, University of Information Technology and some member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University have also announced admission scores based on the 2024 high school graduation exam scores.

Therefore, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong Do Duy Hung noted that Hai Duong candidates need to try to do well in the high school graduation exam to be able to be admitted to the major and school they want.

Considering transcripts is a popular admission method in recent years. Statistics over the years of the Ministry of Education and Training show that the rate of candidates admitted by this method is second only to considering graduation exam scores. In 2022, this rate was nearly 40%, in 2023 it was more than 30.2%, not including methods combining transcript scores and other criteria. Currently, more than 200 schools have announced university admissions in 2024 based on transcripts.

This is considered a suitable method, both convenient and reducing pressure for students. According to statistics from some schools, the academic performance of students admitted based on their academic records is not much different from that of students admitted based on their high school graduation exam scores.
