On April 5, the People's Court of Bac Giang province tried defendant Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy (born in 1973, residing in lane 80, Dai Linh street, Trung Van ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to the indictment, Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy knew Do Truong Son (born in 1972), residing in Tho Xuong ward (Bac Giang city). Thuy lied that she worked in the banking industry, knew many leaders, and had helped a number of businesses in the Central region get preferential loans.

At the same time, Mr. Son got to know Mr. Hoang Van Thi (born in 1979), residing in My Thai commune (Lang Giang), who is the Director of My Thai Investment Joint Stock Company, mainly operating in the field of construction and site clearance.

In early 2020, Mr. Thi's company needed capital to operate, so he contacted Thuy to borrow 110 billion VND. Thuy promised to help the company borrow capital with preferential interest rates from the Ministry of Finance, with a long-term loan term (20 years). Mr. Thi thought it was real, so he agreed that if he could help, he would pay Thuy a commission of 2% of the total loan amount.

After the agreement, Thuy called Mr. Thi many times to ask him to transfer money to her as a gift and to meet with the leaders of the Ministry of Finance. From April 6, 2020 to March 26, 2021, Mr. Thi transferred more than 1.6 billion VND to Thuy many times.

After receiving the money, Thuy appropriated it and used it to buy an apartment and spent it all. At the time of the trial, Thuy had not yet compensated the victim.

The defendant Thuy's behavior is a particularly serious crime, using deceitful tricks to appropriate other people's property.

Based on the criminal act and the results of the debate at the trial, the Trial Panel decided to sentence Thuy to 13 years in prison and force the defendant to compensate the victim for all the property he had appropriated.
