Former bank officer in Kon Tum arrested for fraud and appropriation of more than 14 billion VND

Losing money in livestock investment, Nguyen Van Ton used his role as a bank officer to borrow more than 14 billion VND from many people under the pretext of "repaying the debt to customers" and then embezzled it.

On February 3, Kon Tum Provincial Police said that the unit had just served the decisions to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and arrest warrant for Nguyen Van Ton (born in 1991, residing in Group 5, Truong Chinh Ward, Kon Tum City) to investigate the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Nguyen Van Ton was prosecuted and detained.

According to the initial investigation results, in 2016, Nguyen Van Ton borrowed some money to invest in a pig and cow farm but failed. In 2018, he continued to borrow money to buy a house in Truong Chinh Ward, Kon Tum City, then lost the ability to repay the debt.

To have money to pay off loans, in 2022, as a deputy transaction officer of a bank, Ton asked to borrow money from some people with the reason "need money to pay off bank loans for customers", promising to pay interest and principal on time. Four people lent Ton money, this money was used by Ton to pay off debts and personal expenses.

Authorities said that, up to now, the total amount of money that Nguyen Van Ton has appropriated from the victims is more than 14 billion VND.
