On the afternoon of April 17, the People's Court of Hai Duong City held a first-instance trial and sentenced Nguyen Tien Dung (33 years old, Yen Lu commune, Yen Dung district, Bac Giang) to 51 months in prison for fraud and property appropriation.

Because he did not have a stable job, Dung intended to defraud and appropriate money from others by posting advertisements on Facebook, lying that he had phones for sale.
Dung joined phone buying and selling groups and posted pictures of phones for sale along with information about the phone's condition, warranty period and a price cheaper than the market price to attract people who wanted to buy the phone.
If someone asks to buy a phone, Dung will negotiate the price and quantity of phones. If the customer agrees to buy, he transfers the money to Dung. Then, Dung goes online to find sellers of phones similar to the one the customer ordered. Once the agreement is reached, Dung tells the seller to deliver the phone to the buyer, and the buyer transfers the money to Dung.
After Dung received the buyer's money, he blocked contact with both the buyer and the phone seller.
Using this trick, in August and September 2023, Dung 4 times defrauded and appropriated property of 4 people in Hai Duong, Quang Ngai, Thai Nguyen, and Vinh Phuc provinces with a total amount of nearly 129 million VND.
In 2012, Dung was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City for robbery.
