On the morning of October 31, in the capital Vientiane, the 9th Lao National Assembly opened its 6th session to listen to reports and discuss important issues of the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane said that this session will listen to reports and consider and approve important contents, such as the Prime Minister's report on outstanding issues in the mid-term (2021-2023 period) and the end-term plan (2023-2025); Government performance results in 2023 and the 2024 plan; Report on the implementation results of the mid-term National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2023 period) and the direction of the end-term plan (2023-2025); work activities in 2023 and the direction for 2024 in the budget and fiscal fields; report on the implementation of National Programs on resolving economic and financial difficulties and the National Program on drug prevention and control, etc.
The meeting also listened to and reviewed the report on the implementation of laws in the field of national defense and security such as the Law on National Defense, the Law on Officers of the Lao People's Army and the Law on the Lao People's Public Security Force; the report on the results of the confidence assessment of those elected and approved by the National Assembly. In addition, this session will also listen to the explanations of government members and some related parties in response to questions from National Assembly deputies.
At this session, the Lao National Assembly will also consider eight bills, including two new draft laws and six revised draft laws. The new bills include the Law on Special Economic Zones, the Law on Public Health, draft revised laws related to healthcare, intellectual property, debt payment, legal procedures and supervision of the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils, etc.
The session will last from October 31 to November 22.
