Opening of the 41st ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference in Laos

To meet the needs of combating transnational crimes in the era of globalization and to make ASEAN police a platform for cooperation in the field of police, the Lao Minister of Public Security has made six proposals.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, General Vilay Lakhamphong delivered the opening speech at the Conference.

On the morning of October 17, the Opening Ceremony of the 41st ASEAN Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) Conference with the theme "Strengthening Partnership, Promoting Peace, Stability and Security" took place in the capital Vientiane, Laos.

The Conference was attended by hundreds of delegates from 10 ASEANAPOL member countries, dialogue partners and observers.

Lieutenant General Do Van Hoanh, Chief of Office, Permanent Deputy Head of the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led the Delegation of the Vietnam Police Force to attend the Conference.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, General Vilay Lakhamphong, emphasized that the Conference was held in the context of transnational criminal activities using modern technology to commit crimes that are becoming increasingly sophisticated, becoming a challenge and a direct and indirect threat to political stability, socio-economic development as well as the lives of people in the region and the world.

General Vilay Lakhamphong affirmed that preventing and combating this form of crime is an important, direct, heavy and inevitable task, requiring a focus on strengthening cooperation at both the regional and international levels.

To meet the need to combat transnational crime in the era of globalization and to make ASEAN police a platform for cooperation in the police field, the Lao Minister of Public Security made 6 proposals, including asking ASEAN police to continue to unite and cooperate in efforts to prevent, suppress and combat transnational crimes, especially drug trafficking, chemical trafficking, human trafficking, etc.; coordinate the implementation of other policies, strategies and laws related to solving transnational crime issues as well as develop and implement the Joint Statement of the annual Conference to achieve good results.

The Lao Minister of Public Security proposed focusing on enhancing the role of the ASEAN Police Secretariat to become an important representative organization of the police of ASEAN member countries in cooperation, coordination, and information collection to serve the prevention and fight against transnational crimes in the region and internationally...

Lieutenant General Do Van Hoanh, Chief of Office, Permanent Deputy Head of the Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, led the Delegation of the Vietnam Police Force at the first plenary session of the Conference which took place right after the Opening Ceremony.

Taking place on October 17, 18, and 19, the 41st ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference is expected to discuss and exchange opinions on police cooperation between ASEAN police member countries, dialogue partners and observers to address transnational crime issues such as drug trafficking, terrorism, human trafficking, arms trafficking, illegal wildlife trafficking, maritime crime, commercial crime and credit card fraud, transnational fraud, passport forgery, computer crime, etc.

The strengthening of cooperation between ASEAN police agencies, partner countries and observers at both regional and international levels not only helps strengthen relations within ASEAN in particular and partner countries in general, but also helps promote peace, stability and security in the region and the world, an important basis for the socio-economic development of every country.
