On September 24, in Hanoi, Photography and Life Magazine, the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, held a ceremony to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the publication of its first issue (August 1978 - August 2023).
The ceremony was attended by guests and many veteran photographers.
Talking about the 45-year journey of formation and development, Mr. Ho Sy Minh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, Editor-in-Chief of Photography and Life Magazine said: Photography and Life Magazine is the mouthpiece of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, the predecessor is the Photography Art Bulletin, published since 1967 with many familiar writers such as Photography Artists: Dinh Dang Dinh, Nguyen Long, Vu Khieu, Nguyen Duc Chinh, Le Phuc, Manh Thuong...
On January 2, 1978, Photography Magazine was granted a publishing license by the Prime Minister's Office. However, it was not until 8 months later that the magazine published its first issue under the name Photography Magazine. The generations of leaders of the Magazine were all famous photographers and photography critics, with prestige in the field of photography such as Photography Artists: Dinh Dang Dinh, Hoang Tu Trai, Le Phuc, Nguyen Duc Chinh, Chu Chi Thanh, Hoang Kim Dang, Vu Huyen, Cao Phong, Dang Dinh An, Bui Hoa Tien, Vu Canh, Pham Tien Dung, Ho Sy Minh.
In early 2018, after half a year of difficulty and having to temporarily stop publishing due to lack of financial support from the State, Photography Magazine resumed publishing, switched to operating under an autonomous mechanism and changed its name to Photography and Life Magazine.
Photography and Life Magazine has a wide readership nationwide, especially among photography enthusiasts. The magazine has become the only address in Vietnam to research in-depth issues of photography in theory and practice, introduce the history of photography in the country and the world, and at the same time provide information on creative works and photography theories in the country and abroad, gather Vietnamese photography forces and provide knowledge for those who love and are familiar with the camera.
Over the past 45 years, the Magazine has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State such as: Third Class Labor Medal, Second Class Labor Medal and many certificates of merit and excellent emulation flags from superior agencies.
Speaking at the Anniversary Ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh assessed that, despite many difficulties, Photography and Life Magazine has truly entered life and has left its mark on readers. The Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association believes that, with 45 years of development, in the coming time, Photography and Life Magazine will become a highly theoretical publication, more closely connected to life, a place for photographers and photography lovers to come to exchange, learn experiences, continue to develop photography skills and have more valuable photographic works, contributing to the development of Vietnamese Photography.
According to the President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, Tran Thi Thu Dong, over the past 45 years, Photography and Life Magazine has fulfilled its mission, serving as a bridge between the Association and its members and readers nationwide, especially photography enthusiasts, making a great contribution to the development of Vietnamese photography. With more than 400 issues, Photography and Life Magazine has vividly reflected all aspects of photography activities, actively promoting good values.
According to the President of the Association of Photographic Artists Tran Thi Thu Dong, in order to meet the development requirements, the Magazine needs to have breakthrough changes in thinking and working methods to keep up with the rapid movement and changes of current social life. Build the Magazine to develop in the direction of a multimedia, multi-platform, multi-service media agency, a converged editorial model. Be more vigorous in implementing digital transformation, applying modern journalism technology to bring information related to photography to digital infrastructures and platforms; proactively change technology and approaches to increasingly better meet the needs of information, entertainment, and enjoyment of artistic photography works, attracting more and more readers. The magazine not only plays the role of a source of information reflecting all fields related to photography but also has to be an information "filter", answering, guiding, analyzing, pointing out the nature of phenomena, stories, and social issues related to photography to ensure the good implementation of the magazine's mission and development in a modern direction.
In particular, special attention is paid to solutions for propaganda, promotion and creative orientation for members, especially young people who love photography; preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values, bringing photography into the development process, creating resources for the development process; enhancing the introduction and promotion of Vietnamese cultural values and people abroad and introducing outstanding foreign works of art to domestic photography lovers.
