Hiep Hoa Commune (Kinh Mon, Hai Duong) burned more than 1 hectare of forest this afternoon. The fire was extinguished at 5:30 p.m.
According to Mr. Mao Viet Hai, Head of Kinh Mon Town Forest Protection Department, the fire was discovered at 4:00 p.m. on November 7 when Kinh Mon forest rangers were patrolling the forest. This is a production forest area managed by Hai Duong Forest Management Board. When discovered, the fire had just started to smoke in a small area.
Although the number of trees broken after storm No. 3 in this area was less than in other places, due to the thick layer of vegetation, mainly the giang giang tree (a type of tree with a lot of essential oils, easily flammable), combined with the dry weather, the fire flared up and spread quickly.
Immediately after receiving the news, more than 100 people including police, military of Kinh Mon town, Hiep Hoa commune, and some neighboring communes and wards worked together to clear trees, create firebreaks, and put out the fire. After more than 1 hour of firefighting efforts, the fire was completely controlled.
The cause and damage of the fire have not yet been determined.
Previously, forest fires also occurred in the communes and wards of An Sinh, Le Ninh, Quang Thanh, and Bach Dang in Kinh Mon with a total area of more than 10 hectares.
