The Department of Investigation Police on Social Order Crimes of Quang Nam Province Police initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and issued a temporary detention order against Le Tan Gia to investigate the crime of 'Violating regulations on food safety'.
Previously, on December 26, 2024, the police received a report of two foreigners dying unexpectedly at an accommodation facility in Hoi An City. The Department of Investigation Police on Social Order Crimes of the Provincial Police coordinated with professional units to investigate the cause of the incident. The results determined that the two victims died from methanol poisoning from a type of alcohol they had consumed earlier.
Applying synchronous professional measures, the police force continued to expand the investigation and clarify that at 3:30 p.m. on December 24, 2024, Le Tan Gia ((born in 1979, residing in Cam Nam ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, bartender at a restaurant in Hoi An city) used 70-degree medical alcohol (the type used only for sterilization, not for drinking or use in food processing), mixed with filtered water, lemon peel and white sugar to create two bottles of Limoncello (liqueur), then delivered to two tourists. After drinking, both suffered severe methanol poisoning, leading to death.
The case is currently under investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
