Disturbance in the Great Unity Day

These last days of the year, Nguyen Xuan Dien, born in 1981, in Phuong Hoang village, Cam Hoang commune (Cam Giang) is still waiting for trial for the act of "disturbing public order".

Originally a driver, Dien got into drinking and neglected his work. On the afternoon of November 17, 2024, after a drinking session in Cam Giang town, Dien returned home in a drunken stupor and turned into the cultural house of Phuong Hoang village, which was organizing the National Great Unity Day. Seeing that Dien was drunk, the village leaders and members of the Security and Order Team at the grassroots level tried to dissuade him, but Dien did not go back to sleep but continued to cause trouble and curse. Not stopping there, in a drunken stupor, Dien rushed onto the stage to cause trouble, disrupting the organization.

Faced with this insolent behavior, Dien was restrained by the commune police and handed over to the Investigation Police Agency of Cam Giang District Police. On November 22, Nguyen Xuan Dien was prosecuted by Cam Giang District Police for “disturbing public order”, according to Clause 2, Article 318 of the Penal Code.

On December 21, Gia Loc District People's Procuracy approved the order to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Dinh Toan (born in 1991, residing in Zone 7, Gia Loc town) for the crime of resisting a person on official duty.

At 8:10 p.m. on December 17, a working group from the Traffic Police - Order Team of Gia Loc District Police asked Nguyen Dinh Toan to stop his motorbike to check his alcohol concentration on Nguyen Che Nghia Street (Gia Loc Town).

Traffic police restrained Nguyen Dinh Toan. Before that, after drinking alcohol, Toan drove and was stopped by traffic police. Toan begged to be let off but was refused, so he threw waste on the traffic police's desk (photo provided by the police)

Toan confessed to having drunk beer and alcohol, and asked the working group to let him go so he could "learn from his mistakes". When they refused, Toan left, but about 20 minutes later, he suddenly returned carrying a plastic bucket of pig manure and poured it out in front of the plastic table used by the working group to work with violators. Toan rushed to the aforementioned table.

Toan was restrained by the task force for disturbing public order and resisting law enforcement officers. According to the Gia Loc District People's Procuracy, with the above violations, this subject will certainly receive a severe sentence.

The fine line between normal people and criminals sin

Working as an industrial cleaner in Hai Duong City, despite the hardship, Vu Van Thang (born in 1979, residing in Minh Tan Ward, Kinh Mon, Hai Duong) is still hardworking and determined to make a living. Only in his free time, Thang and some friends organize drinking parties right in their rented room to relax. But during one of those drinking parties, in just a moment, from an ordinary worker, Thang committed a serious crime.

Thang shared a room with Mr. THD (born in 1982, residing in Dong Quang commune, Gia Loc) in Thanh Binh ward (Hai Duong city). On June 11, 2024, a friend came to Thang's room and Mr. THD played. The three of them organized the drinking party. In the story, there were conflicts between Thang and Mr. D. The climax of the story was when Mr. D. chased Thang out of the room and said he would not let him stay with them. Having drunk a bit, Thang used a knife to stab Mr. D in the neck. When he learned that the victim had died, Thang went to Thanh Binh Ward Police to confess.

In early November, Thang was sentenced to 17 years in prison for murder by the People's Court of Hai Duong province. After the trial, many people expressed regret for the defendant, who had gone from being a normal, hard-working person to suddenly bringing disaster upon himself.

This is one of many serious alcohol-related incidents in Hai Duong in recent times. Unlike some other types of criminals who are often evasive and deny their crimes when arrested by the police or when brought to court, those who commit alcohol-related crimes all have one thing in common: they are very remorseful, but it is too late. An investigator from Cam Giang District Police said that after Nguyen Xuan Dien was transferred back for causing trouble at the Great Unity Festival in Phuong Hoang village, when he sobered up, he appeared very panicked at having caused such a serious incident. This subject said that after drinking too much alcohol, he could not control himself and became a different person. The subject also kept asking "Is this crime serious?" and said he would never repeat the above behavior.

In many other cases of crimes caused by excessive alcohol use, when appearing in court, the subjects all admitted their actions and admitted that excessive alcohol use led to serious consequences. If they were sober, the above incidents would never have happened..

Not only do people who drink alcohol temporarily cause serious consequences, but those who drink alcohol for a long time, making their minds unclear, are more likely to have bad consequences. A typical example is the case of Nguyen Van Du (born in 1970, residing in Hai Tan ward, Hai Duong city). In late March, Du was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court of Hai Duong province for murder and robbery.

Du had been drinking for a long time, so he suffered from behavioral disorders and often went to the victim's house, Mr. LQL (born in 1970, Ngoc Chau ward, Hai Duong city) to drink. During a drinking session that led to a conflict, Du used a fruit knife to stab Mr. L. in the neck, leading to his death, then took a phone and left the scene...

Information at the Workshop "Harmful effects of alcohol and beer on road traffic participants" organized by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Health in early 2024 showed that of the 45,661 prisoners serving prison sentences at the Ministry of Public Security's prisons, up to 23,438 prisoners used alcohol and beer before committing crimes, accounting for 51.3%.

The health sector recommends that excessive use of alcohol and alcoholic beverages will not only have negative consequences for health but also lead to traffic accidents and violence. Therefore, people should not abuse alcohol.
