Speaking at a press conference on October 14, JCS public relations director Lee Sung Joon said the South Korean military is closely monitoring Pyongyang's moves.

During a hearing before the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on October 14, Kim Kyung Il, Mayor of Paju, a border city south of Panmunjom in Gyeonggi Province, said that escalating tensions in the border area in recent days have caused residents in the area to consider moving out of their homes as if in a state of war.

The Gyeonggi provincial government is also considering plans to establish “risk zones” in border areas such as Goyang, Gimpo, Yeoncheon, Pocheon and Paju.

Earlier, North Korea raised the level of warning to Seoul, claiming that South Korean drones had repeatedly violated its airspace.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on the afternoon of October 13, North Korea ordered eight artillery brigades near the border with South Korea to be ready to fire and the country's air defense forces to strengthen their mission of protecting the capital Pyongyang.

KCNA also said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a meeting with senior security officials on October 14 to discuss the repeated incursions of South Korean drones into the capital Pyongyang and to draw up military action plans to defend national sovereignty.
