The North Korean military announced that starting October 9, it will close all roads and railways connecting to South Korea.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted a statement from the General Staff of the Korean People's Army as saying: "A project will be launched on October 9 to completely shut down all roads and railways connecting to 'South Korea' and 'strengthen defense at the border'."
The move comes amid military exercises in South Korea and the US deployment of nuclear military hardware to the Korean Peninsula, and after Pyongyang publicly disclosed a uranium enrichment facility for the first time.
Since 2019, after US-North Korea and inter-Korean diplomatic efforts failed to achieve a breakthrough, all communication channels and exchange programs between North Korea and South Korea have remained disrupted.
