According to statistics, from the beginning of 2024 to now, Hanoi has recorded nearly 800 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (1.8 times higher than the same period in 2023).

Entering the peak of the epidemic

Not only in Hanoi, the number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases across the country has also increased. In the first three months of the year, more than 10,000 cases were recorded, an increase of 2.3 times compared to the same period in 2023.

Hanoi CDC determined that hand, foot and mouth disease has two peak epidemic cycles in April and May and September and October.

Hanoi CDC recommends strengthening disease inspection and monitoring in kindergartens and primary schools. Hygiene to prevent hand, foot and mouth disease in schools should focus on children's personal items such as cups, towels, toys, etc.

In addition, schools need to organize general cleaning every week to prevent epidemics.

Do not be subjective with hand, foot and mouth disease

Dr. Do Thi Thuy Nga, Deputy Head of the Department of General Internal Medicine, Center for Tropical Diseases, National Children's Hospital, said that hand, foot and mouth disease can become serious, so parents need to pay attention to monitor and take their children to medical facilities for timely examination, diagnosis and treatment.

Russian doctors say the disease usually begins with fever, loss of appetite, malaise and sore throat. One to two days after the fever begins, painful blisters appear in the mouth.

They start as red blisters and often develop into ulcers. These ulcers are most often found on the tongue, gums, and inside the cheeks.

Ms. Nga also warned that because hand, foot and mouth disease progresses quickly and unpredictably, when a child is found to have the disease, the family should take the child to a medical facility for examination.

After the child is diagnosed, depending on the condition, the doctor will prescribe outpatient or inpatient treatment. If the child is eligible for home care, the doctor will advise on care, how to detect severe symptoms, and promptly treat them.

Parents should absolutely not research online and then arbitrarily use medicine that can make the child's illness worse.
