On the morning of May 10 (Vietnam time), the 2022 Pulitzer Prize Council announced the names of newspapers with outstanding works, vividly reflecting the world situation over the past year.

The New York Times was the most prominent newspaper, winning three Pulitzer Prizes, while the Washington Post was honored with the award for public service and Reuters was the news agency with the most outstanding photo.

The New York Times won awards in the categories: National Reporting and International Reporting.

According to the award jury, The New York Times was highly appreciated for its investigative series on fatal police stops across the United States, as well as how accident victims often "avoid" penalties.

The paper also exposed the devastating damage caused by the US air campaign in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Salamishah Tillet of The New York Times won the award in the "Criticism" category for her articles about people of color in the arts and popular culture.

In the "Public Service" category, the Washington Post impressed the judges with its factual reporting during the riot at the US Capitol building on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

Four Reuters photojournalists, including Siddiqui (Danish) who was killed while covering a clash between Afghan security forces and the Taliban in July 2021, won the "Featured Photography" category with a series of photos about India's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, a team of five Getty Images photographers and reporter Marcus Yam of The Los Angeles Times shared the win in the "Press Photo" category. While the Getty Images team captured valuable "hot" images, updating the riots on Capitol Hill in January 2021, Marcus Yam was highly appreciated for his images of the US military leaving Afghanistan last summer.

In addition, many other newspapers in the US were also honored with the 2022 Pulitzer Prize. Among the remaining awards, the most notable was probably the Miami Herald, which received the prestigious award for breaking news for its coverage of the Surfside apartment collapse in June 2021. The series was judged by the jury to be very "clear and humane, combined with comprehensive and responsible news."

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Times won in the investigative category for its investigation into toxic hazards inside Florida's only battery recycling plant. The stories ultimately "forced agencies to implement safety measures" to adequately protect workers and nearby residents.

The Pulitzer Prize committee highlighted the "challenges and dangers facing journalists around the world" in their work. The 2022 Pulitzer Prize ceremony continues to affirm the spirit of its "father," journalist Joseph Pulitzer, about his passionate efforts to create works that have a widespread and relevant impact on life.

The Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded since 1917. They currently include 15 categories for news, journalism, and photography, and seven awards for books, drama, and music.
