Sending martial arts athletes to train abroad to prepare for ASIAD 19

The Department of Physical Training and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said: Martial arts athletes have plans to train abroad to best prepare for the upcoming 19th ASIAD in Hangzhou (China).

Specifically, the Vietnam Karate Team, consisting of Head Coach Duong Hoang Long and 3 female Kumite fighters Nguyen Thi Ngoan, Hoang Thi My Tam, Dinh Thi Huong and a doctor, arrived in Japan on August 15 to begin a 3-week training trip. The coaching staff will plan for the fighters to reach their peak performance in time to compete at the 19th ASIAD.

At this year's ASIAD, the Karate competitions will increase from 12 to 14. The Vietnam Karate team is expected to send 12 athletes to participate, competing in both performance (Kata) and combat (Kumite) events.

Female martial artist Hoang Thi My Tam (20 years old) has achieved many remarkable achievements such as Gold medals in individual and team combat at the SEA Games, Asian Youth Championship and Asian Championship. At the upcoming ASIAD, My Tam is expected to compete in the 55 kg category and will compete with top regional and continental martial artists from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Macau, Iran, Chinese Taipei...

Along with Hoang Thi My Tam, veteran boxer Nguyen Thi Ngoan is also expected to achieve her best form and condition.

At the 19th ASIAD, Karate will compete from October 5-7. The intensive training trip in Japan will contribute to strengthening the mission of "hunting" for a Gold medal of the Vietnam Karate Team.

On the other hand, the Vietnam Wushu Team has also planned and will go to China for training from August 17. The month-long training trip will help the key players of the Vietnam Wushu Team hone their skills and tactics to achieve their best performance when competing at the 19th ASIAD.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Taekwondo Team is also training in Korea for a key group of martial artists from mid-August to September 5. During this training session, athletes will be trained in competitive spirit and tactics. The Vietnam Taekwondo Team aims to win medals at the 19th ASIAD, and at the same time seek an official spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics (France).

The Jujitsu team has also planned to train in the Philippines from early September, in order to have the best mental state when competing at this ASIAD.
