December 4, answering reporters,Mr. Bui Trong Dinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ich Hau commune (Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh) said that there had just been an incident in which 3 people in a family suffocated and were hospitalized.
“The initial cause was determined to be burning coal while sleeping and closing the door to warm the newborn baby. Immediately after discovering the incident, the victims were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment,”The leader of the People's Committee of the commune informed more.
The victims were Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyen (27 years old, residing in Ich Hau commune, Loc Ha district) and her 13-day-old son, Ms. Hoang Thi Hong (59 years old, Ms. Tuyen's biological mother).
According to initial information, on the morning of the same day (December 4), when the mother-in-law knocked on Tuyen's door, no one answered. Worried that something bad was about to happen, she called her son and neighbors to break the door to get in.
Opening the door, they found Ms. Tuyen, her biological mother, and her 13-day-old son lying unconscious on the bed, with a warm charcoal pot next to them.
It is known that the incident occurred in a room only about 10 square meters wide and with the door closed.
Currently, Ms. Tuyen and Ms. Hong are in serious condition and are expected to be transferred to a higher level. The 13-day-old baby is being given oxygen and continues to be monitored and treated.
Authorities warn that when the weather turns cold, many people have the habit of burning coal in closed rooms to sleep. However, this method of heating poses many unpredictable dangers, such as house fires caused by sparks, the risk of burns, and even death and critical illness due to coal gas poisoning.
