Over the years, the Vocational Training and Farmers Support Center of Hai Duong province (Hai Duong Farmers' Association) has become a reputable supplier of plant varieties for farmers.
Taking us to visit his nearly 1.5-acre garden, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong in Pham Ly village, Ngo Quyen commune (Thanh Mien) said that in his family's garden there are dozens of different types of fruit trees such as green-skinned grapefruit, red grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, sapodilla, guava, coconut, jackfruit, etc. Many types have been harvested, the fruit quality is relatively delicious, the trees are green and healthy, and free of pests and diseases.
Previously, Mr. Truong worked at the Ngo Quyen Commune Farmers’ Association. After retiring, he focused on gardening. Because he knew the origin of the seedlings, he often bought plants provided by the Ngo Quyen Commune Farmers’ Association. “The plants have a clear origin, and someone brings them to the garden, so I don’t have to worry about the quality, nor do I have to waste time traveling,” said Mr. Truong.
Like Mr. Truong, many farmers in the province always trust the plants provided by the Hai Duong Province Vocational Training and Farmer Support Center, so the number of purchases is increasing. Some households have planted their entire gardens with seedlings provided by the center. Mr. Nguyen Van Sanh in Gia village, Le Loi commune (Gia Loc) has bought hundreds of coconut trees from the center to plant in the conversion area. Mr. Sanh said: “Although the trees have not been harvested yet, I believe in the quality of the seedlings provided by the center and the selling price is also cheaper than the market price. In general, the trees are adapted to the local land and soil conditions, and no trees have died. In the future, if I expand my garden, I will continue to buy trees from the center.”
In recent years, the Vocational Training and Farmers Support Center of Hai Duong province has actively promoted and mobilized people to renovate mixed gardens, embankments, and fields to plant shade trees and fruit trees. However, some people buy trees on the open market, so some trees are of poor quality and have to be cut down and replanted, which is both time-consuming and costly. “It takes a lot of time and effort to plant a tree, so to ensure the quality of the trees for the people, we cooperate with the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture in the supply. All the trees are taken here, so farmers can rest assured and do not have to worry about quality or price. In the past 3 years, the supply has become regular with increasing quantity. In 2023 alone, the center will supply 10,000 trees to members,” said Mr. Nguyen Quy Trong, Director of the Vocational Training and Farmers Support Center of Hai Duong province.
Every year, the center notifies the district-level Farmers' Association and deploys it to the grassroots level for members to register the species and quantity of plants. After that, the center gathers and sends people to the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to buy and transport plants to the commune-level People's Committee for members.
Mr. Hoang Mai Van, Chairman of the Gia Loc Town Farmers' Association, assessed the quality of the trees provided by the center as guaranteed, and farmers who bought and planted them all gave good feedback. "When the Gia Loc Town Farmers' Association deployed them to the grassroots level, the members highly agreed. Many people buy trees every year to plant in their gardens and recommend them to their friends and relatives. I think this is a practical thing to do, bringing direct results to the people," said Mr. Van.
