Archer Le Quoc Phong helped the Vietnamese sports delegation get the 12th ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At the 2024 Archery World Cup in Türkiye, the Vietnamese team has 3 athletes participating in the men's individual 1-string bow event: Le Quoc Phong, Nguyen Minh Duc and Nguyen Duy. The hope of archery and the Vietnamese sports delegation is focused on this event.
However, Nguyen Duy lost to Ahmed Rubel (Bangladesh) with a score of 5-6 in round 3 and Minh Duc lost to Sagor Islam (Bangladesh) in round 4. Le Quoc Phong was the only one to pass round 4 to enter the quarter-finals. He defeated Ram Krishna Saha (Bangladesh) 6-2 and entered the semi-finals.
The 2024 World Cup of Archery also serves as a qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics for several archery events. The World Archery Federation (WA) has awarded five spots for the men's individual slingshot event. All semi-finalists will therefore qualify for the Olympics. Quoc Phong is one of those athletes.
The athlete from Vinh Long has been in very good form recently. He helped Vietnamese archery to be in the top 4 for the first time at the world tournament held in Korea in April 2024. Despite Quoc Phong's success, Vietnamese archery still has the right to regret Nguyen Minh Duc (men's individual single-string bow) or Loc Thi Dao (women's individual single-string bow).
Up to now, Vietnamese sports have had 12 official slots to participate in the Olympics, including Le Quoc Phong (archery), Nguyen Thuy Linh, Le Duc Phat (badminton); Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting); Vo Thi Kim Anh, Ha Thi Linh (boxing); Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming); Nguyen Thi That (biking); Trinh Van Vinh (weightlifting); Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing) and Pham Thi Hue (rowing).
The Olympic qualifying rounds for some sports have not yet ended, in which, Vietnamese sports are expected to win 1-2 more places in archery, 1 place in judo, 1 place in swimming and 1 place in athletics.
