Archer Anh Nguyet started the first day of competition for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a good result in the qualifying round of the women's singles 1-string archery event.
Athlete Anh Nguyet represents Vietnam in archery at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Archer Do Thi Anh Nguyet opened the Vietnamese sports scene at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with the qualifying competition in the women's singles 1-string archery event this morning (July 23).
The women's single-string archery event has a total of 64 archers participating. Each archer shoots a total of 72 arrows at a target at a distance of 70m.
At the end of the competition, the Vietnamese representative athlete ranked 49th, with a total score of 628. This achievement is not Anh Nguyet's highest achievement as she had achieved 639 points after 2 rounds in March 2020.
However, this result is not bad and there are still many opportunities ahead.
The qualifying round results will be used to pair archers into the knockout round, which begins on July 27.
According to the format, the qualifying round pairings will be determined based on the results of the qualifying round. The 1st ranked archer will meet the 64th ranked archer, the 2nd ranked archer will meet the 63rd ranked archer...
In the same event this morning, Korean athlete An San won 680 points and broke the Olympic record held by Ukrainian archer Herasymenko Lina since 1996 (673 points).

At 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, archer Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu will compete in the men's 1-string bow event with 63 other athletes.
If the total score of the two Vietnamese archers Anh Nguyet and Phi Vu is in the top 16, they will also be able to participate in the mixed doubles event.
According to the coach of the archery department, if the two Vietnamese athletes have good results like when they trained in Japan, they can completely win the right to participate in the men's and women's event.
After the archery competition today, the Vietnamese sports delegation will participate in many other competitions from tomorrow (July 24) after the opening ceremony held tonight.
