Apple's strangest laptop could arrive in 2025

Impressive foldable OLED screen laptop ZenBook 17 Fold

According to a report by Korean news site Business Korea, Apple is in the development stage of a laptop with a foldable screen. The company has started negotiating with suppliers to prepare for the appearance of this special MacBook.

If the product becomes a reality, it could revive the currently sluggish display manufacturing market, the source said.

Accordingly, the foldable MacBook will be announced in 2025 and released the following year. Korean display manufacturers such as Samsung Display and LG Display have invested heavily in OLED panels for laptops recently, as the smartphone market shows signs of saturation.

Samsung Display decides to invest3.1 billion USDto produce OLED panels in 2025-2026. LG Display is also investing in mid-sized OLED panels, including those for tablets.

The two companies are currently “coordinating plans to develop and produce foldable OLED panels for laptops” as this nascent market begins to grow. An order from Apple would certainly be a big boost.

Large screens will certainly be profitable for panel makers, although it is difficult to achieve high pixel densities, according to the source. Besides, it is easier to produce foldable screens for laptops than foldable screens for smartphones. Therefore, this will be a big business opportunity for companies.

Currently, the leading brand in the foldable screen laptop market is Asus. In September 2022, the company introduced the world's first 17-inch foldable OLED screen laptop, the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED. This product uses panels from the Chinese manufacturer BOE.
