At the regular Government meeting on the afternoon of December 7, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son clarified issues related to the plan to limit early admission to no more than 20% of the target, which is receiving public attention.

"Adjusting admission regulations must be based on the principles of fairness, quality, efficiency improvement, and convenience for candidates and schools," said Deputy Minister Son.

According to Deputy Minister Son, early admission "creates a race". One school organizing early admission makes many schools unable to stand still and follow suit.

"But if everyone joins this race, it will be difficult. Training facilities must prepare documents early. Students who are studying also have to run around to prepare documents. Teachers must confirm early for students. But the results are not high," the deputy minister analyzed.

According to the ministry's statistics, for every eight early admission requests, only one is admitted. For every two candidates admitted early, only one is admitted.

Early admission is organized by the schools themselves, so when the admission department conducts a joint examination, it will create a virtual ratio. This makes it uncertain for schools to determine their quotas and benchmarks.

"Early admission based on academic results when students have not completed high school also creates unfairness," said Mr. Son. In addition, many high schools have reported that students who have passed early admission come to class just to play. As a result, it affects the quality of general education.

Explaining the reduction of the early admission rate to 20%, Deputy Minister Son said that it is to allow schools to recruit students with outstanding abilities. The remaining students will be admitted in a centralized admission round to ensure fairness, quality, and convenience.

"I have listened to many experts agree, many even suggested eliminating early admission, so we will consider keeping the 20% rate or eliminating it," said Mr. Son.
