There are many eateries in Hai Duong City. Many of them have not strictly followed the process of separating garbage and excess grease, causing environmental pollution and clogged drains during heavy rains.

Cau Cat River is often polluted, partly due to untreated wastewater.

On the afternoon of May 12, there was heavy rain in Hai Duong City. Many streets in the new urban area in the east of the city were flooded, including some sections of streets adjacent to Bach Dang River and Cau Cat River such as Thanh Nien, Bui Thi Xuan, Nguyen Cong Hoa... One cause was determined to be garbage clogging the drainage gates, especially garbage mixed with excess oil and grease from restaurants and eateries.

According to a report published by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hai Duong City, wastewater from many restaurants and eateries in the area has not strictly implemented the process of separating garbage and excess oil. Some restaurants and eateries do not even collect wastewater through the septic tank system for treatment before discharging it into the environment.

Wards and communes in Hai Duong city need to guide and strengthen supervision of production and business establishments, especially restaurants and eateries, to implement wastewater treatment processes before discharging them into the surrounding environment; and have strict sanctions against acts of discharging wastewater into the environment that has not been separated from grease and garbage.
