The statement of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry also called on citizens currently residing in Lebanon to exercise extreme caution, stay away from conflict areas, follow the instructions of local authorities and maintain regular contact with the Egyptian Embassy in Lebanon in the capital Beirut.

The warning comes amid intense Israeli airstrikes on eastern and southern Lebanon that have killed more than 600 people and injured hundreds in the past 72 hours.

Earlier on September 24, Egypt's national airline EgyptAir suspended flights from Cairo to Beirut until the situation in Lebanon stabilizes.

Several countries have also urged their citizens to leave Lebanon in the past 48 hours. Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has advised Italians working in Lebanon to leave the Middle Eastern country. Speaking on the sidelines of a session of the European People's Party (EPP) MEPs, Foreign Minister Tajani said: "Italian citizens working in Lebanon should leave the country as soon as possible. There are still flights from Beirut to the West. So we advise them to leave Lebanon."

According to Foreign Minister Tajani, there are currently nearly 300 Italian citizens working in Lebanon.
