The move came the same day after Israel confirmed it had hit more than 1,300 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in the past 24 hours, killing at least 492 people and wounding at least 1,645.
According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on September 24, the IAF struck dozens more Hezbollah targets in several areas of southern Lebanon. In addition, IDF artillery struck other targets in the Ayta ash-Shab and Ramyeh areas of southern Lebanon.
On September 23, Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces Herzi Halevi announced that the country had launched a preemptive strike operation called "Northern Arrow", in which Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah military facilities. The declared goal was to create safe conditions for local residents to return to Israel's northern border areas, where they had been evacuated due to shelling carried out by Hezbollah units since October 8 last year.
