On June 5, TASS news agency reported that there have been many cases of alcohol poisoning requiring hospitalization in several regions of Russia in recent days. At least 18 people have died and 2 are in critical condition.

Sixteen people died in Ulyanovsk Oblast and two others in Samara Oblast after consuming Mr. Cider branded wine. Two serious cases were reported in the Republic of Udmurtia. Several victims were hospitalized in the three regions.

Mr. Cider is produced at a factory in the Samara region. Russian authorities have not yet been able to conclude which toxin in this drink led to the poisoning.
