Hai Duong General Hospital provided emergency treatment and treatment for 35 patients with alcohol poisoning and alcohol addiction in the first quarter.

The above statistics do not include a few cases of severe alcohol poisoning admitted to the hospital's Emergency Department but transferred to a higher level, and patients with diseases such as cirrhosis and hepatitis on the basis of long-term alcoholism treated at Department of Internal Medicine 4.

Master, Doctor Nguyen Khai Hoan, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning at Hai Duong General Hospital, said that all patients with alcohol poisoning and serious illnesses due to alcoholism were men, with an average age of 30-50.

Through the survey, it was found that many patients who had to be treated in the above department drank 300 ml of alcohol/day, with 5 cases drinking up to 1 liter/person/day.

In recent years, the number of patients treated for poisoning at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department has mainly been related to alcohol. In the last 2 years, this department has treated about 100 cases/year with common conditions being alcohol poisoning, alcohol-induced psychosis on the background of other diseases, and other chronic diseases on the background of severe alcoholism and exhaustion.

Most alcoholics often drink alcohol many times a day, drink without eating, leading to body wasting and atrophy. The amount of alcohol in the blood is often maintained at a high level, causing the cells, blood tissue, nerve tissue to freeze, and tissue to die, the immune system to decline rapidly, causing a series of dangerous diseases.

Alcoholics with various diseases, especially infections, are in very serious condition, with cirrhosis, poor liver function, blood clotting disorders, poor ability to eliminate toxins, poor metabolism, and need intermittent or continuous dialysis... This makes the emergency time longer, and many cases do not survive.
