Verifying clip of teacher dragging student at Da Phuc High School

On the evening of September 29, a clip appeared on social media of a teacher grabbing a female student by the collar and dragging her from the hallway into the classroom. The incident is said to have occurred at Da Phuc High School (Soc Son District, Hanoi).

In the clip, a female student lies in the hallway, crying loudly, while the teacher grabs the student by the collar and drags her right at the classroom door. The clip has received a lot of attention and shares from the online community with many comments criticizing the actions of the teacher who is said to be the homeroom teacher and also teaches Civic Education at the school.

On the morning of September 30, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hien, Principal of Da Phuc High School, confirmed that the clip circulating online about the act of “a teacher dragging a student” did indeed happen at the school on September 29. However, unlike what the online community was saying, there was no teacher abusing a student.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hien said that the incident happened at around 11:30 on September 29. Immediately after that, the school grasped the situation and discussed with the student, the homeroom teacher as well as the student's family. Through the discussion, it was found that there was a lot of information on the internet that was not true and did not fully reflect the nature of the problem.

According to Mr. Hien, the nature of the incident was not “teacher abuse” or beating the student, but the student lay down on the ground and apologized to the teacher. When the teacher asked the student to stand up, he did not stand. Two other students tried to pull him up but failed. The teacher was also impatient, holding the phone in one hand and grabbing the student by the collar with the other hand, but did not hit him. However, according to Mr. Hien, the teacher’s action of grabbing the student’s collar and pulling him up was not up to standard.

The principal of Da Phuc High School also added that, as soon as the information was received, the school contacted the teacher to correct her inappropriate behavior towards the student. At the same time, the school also contacted the student's parents to apologize. On the morning of September 30, the school asked the teacher and student involved in the incident to report and clarify the matter.

"The student himself is not in good health. I called to encourage him and he admitted that he was wrong towards the teacher," said Mr. Nguyen Duy Hien, continuing to affirm that the teacher did not beat the student.
