Trump's approval rating is falling after the New York Supreme Court found him guilty on all 34 criminal counts in a case involving falsifying business records to pay "hush money".
The latest public opinion polls in the US show that the New York court's decision to find former President Donald Trump guilty of a criminal offense is affecting this year's US presidential election campaign.
Polls released on June 4 showed that support for Republican presidential candidate Trump was falling after the New York Supreme Court found him guilty on all 34 criminal counts in a case involving falsifying business records to pay hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
According to the ABC News/Ipsos poll, 50% of respondents said the jury got Trump right; 51% agreed that the former US president had intentionally acted illegally in this case and 49% said Trump should withdraw as the Republican presidential candidate in this year's election after being found guilty.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll also shows incumbent President Joe Biden leading candidate Donald Trump by 2%.
Meanwhile, according to a Reuters poll, 10% of registered Republicans said they “probably” would not vote for Mr. Trump; 25% of registered independents said the same. According to Reuters, Mr. Biden also leads Mr. Trump by 2%.
A Morning Consult poll found that 54% of respondents agreed with the court's ruling; 51% said Trump was unfit to serve as president; and 15% of Republicans said Trump should end his 2024 campaign after being found guilty.
Notably, 7 out of 10 respondents said that criminal cases against billionaire Donald Trump should be resolved before the November 5 election.
Former President Donald Trump has called the New York trial unfair and disgraceful. On May 31, Trump announced that he would appeal the verdict.
On the same day, Trump campaign officials said the Republican candidate raised an additional $34.8 million from donors in less than seven hours after the historic ruling on the afternoon of May 30 (local time).
