The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) confirmed that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un left the country for Russia by train on the afternoon of September 11.
According to YOhap, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un left the country for Russia by train on the afternoon of September 11 (local time).
North Korean state media confirmed the news on the morning of September 12, a day after North Korea said Kim Jong-un would “soon” visit Russia for talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Mr. Kim Jong-un was accompanied by top officials of the Workers' Party and the Korean military.
However, it is still unknown exactly when and where Mr. Kim Jong-un and Mr. Putin will hold the summit.
The Kremlin said talks between North Korean and Russian delegations were planned during Kim Jong-un's visit.
Previously, Russia said on August 31 that Moscow intends to strengthen relations with North Korea.
"Moscow and Pyongyang maintain good relations, mutual respect. We intend to develop them further. Contacts are being held at various levels," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, stressing that Russia considers North Korea "a very important neighbor."
