Le Thi Phuong Tram, owner of Nari Bar Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, was accused of having her employees beat and strip customers, and using her own bank cards to pay for 'fraudulent' bills.
The actions of Tram, Phan Thi Kim Xuyen and 4 accomplices are stated in the indictment that the People's Procuracy of District 1 (Ho Chi Minh City) has just completed and transferred to the court of the same level for trial on the charges of extortion of property and humiliation of others.
The indictment determined that Tram and Xuyen contributed capital to open Nari Bar Restaurant on Thai Van Lung Street, District 1, with Xuyen also serving as the accountant.
Early morning of April 17, 2024, Mr. Hung, 54 years old, went to Nari Bar to drink beer. He was advised by employee Le Thi Hue to buy a beer and karaoke service package for 40 USD/hour. This package included 2 cans of beer, sitting and talking and singing karaoke with a female employee, without using any other services. Mr. Hung agreed and was guided into the room by Hue.
While Mr. Hung was using the service, Hue and an employee sat together drinking beer until 4 a.m. When paying, the employee gave him a bill of more than 10 million VND.
Mr. Hung did not agree to pay because he thought he was charged many fees that were not consistent with the service package that had been consulted.
When called to resolve the issue, Tram suggested reducing the surcharge for female staff by 600,000 VND for the customer, and asked to pay 9.5 VND (including 3 karaoke sets, 24 cans of beer, 2 packs of cakes), but Mr. Hung still did not agree.
After arguing, Hue called the neighborhood watch and was asked to go to the police station to resolve the matter. On the way, Hue and a male employee saw Mr. Hung leave so they continued to go to the restaurant to demand money. Tram asked two other employees to come and help.
Hue, the male employee and a group of people called by Tram rushed in and beat and punched Mr. Hung. Tram and Xuyen ordered the employee to "strip" him if he did not pay.
Mr. Hung still did not agree, so Tram's group of employees restrained him, stripped him of all his clothes, and pushed him out onto the street. Tram then took the visa card from Mr. Hung's personal bag and gave it to the employee to scan into the restaurant's cash register to pay 9.5 million VND.
After successfully swiping the card, the group of employees gave Mr. Hung the clothes to wear again. Xuyen asked the customer to sign the receipt to complete the transaction, but Mr. Hung refused and went to report to the police.
