From next school year, preschool children and students of all levels in Ho Chi Minh City may be exempt from tuition fees, according to a proposal by the Department of Education and Training.
This is the plan mentioned by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in the draft resolution on special policies to support tuition fees for preschool children, public and non-public high school students and continuing education students in the area from the 2025-2026 school year. The draft is being consulted with relevant departments and branches.
The Department of Education and Training assessed that exempting tuition fees would be a meaningful and practical gift for all students in the city, creating a mark to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. In addition, this demonstrates the city's interest and investment in education, taking the lead in tuition exemption and support policies, ensuring the quality of education and learning opportunities for the people.
Last week, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved a plan to exempt tuition fees for secondary schools, with a total cost of about VND237 billion. Preschool children aged 5 and primary school students are exempted from tuition fees according to the Education Law. Currently, preschool children under 5 and high school students have to pay tuition fees.
If passed, the policy will apply to children and students in public and non-public schools, except for schools with foreign investment.
The support level for tuition exemption for children under 5 years old and high school students is as follows:
Grade level | Tuition support level (VND/student/month) | |
Group 1 | Group 2 | |
Nursery | 200,000 | 120,000 |
