During Tet, along with the bustling and exciting atmosphere of people preparing to welcome the new year, the situation of crime and law violations also contains many complications. At this time, police forces at all levels do not hesitate to work hard, day and night to organize patrols and controls to prevent and combat criminal activities. Through patrols and controls, the police force has discovered and handled many cases of law violations.

On the evening of January 9, Task Force 151 of Gia Loc District Police organized patrols and inspections as usual on key areas and routes. Arriving at National Highway 37 through residential area No. 1, Gia Loc town, the Task Force saw two cases of electric bicycles with suspicious signs, asked to stop for inspection and discovered them carrying 13 kg of firecrackers. The two people carrying the firecrackers were minors, including Pham Van G. (born in 2006) and Nguyen Duc H. (born in 2007, both residing in Qua Bo village, Lien Hong commune, Hai Duong city). These were the firecrackers that G. made himself.

This is just one of many cases discovered by the police force during patrols and inspections. To better understand the silent sacrifices, hardships and achievements of police officers at all levels on patrol and inspection duty during Tet, we followed them through many dark nights.

Through the night

At 7:00 p.m. on January 16, we arrived at the Traffic Police Department (Hai Duong Provincial Police) to patrol with Task Force 151. In the bitter cold, Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Linh, an officer of the Traffic Police Department, Head of Task Force 151, quickly ate dinner and changed clothes, preparing necessary tools, vehicles, and equipment. After finishing the work, Lieutenant Linh contacted and urged the officers in the team to quickly go to the assembly point to carry out the task. At exactly 7:30 p.m. as scheduled, 6 officers and soldiers from 5 units of Task Force 151, fully prepared their military uniforms, support tools, and vehicles, gathered, ready to go on duty. After being briefed and assigned tasks by the Team Leader, Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Linh, the whole team set out. The patrol and control route tonight focused on Hai Duong City.

Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Linh shared: "Tonight, the second leg of the AFF Cup 2022 final between Vietnam and Thailand will take place. The working group determined that there will be many potential risks of disrupting security and order, so they focused on patrolling in Hai Duong City. The group will focus on crowded streets to promptly detect and handle subjects who disrupt public order, especially after consuming beer, alcohol, driving erratically, and weaving."

On some streets such as Tue Tinh, Thanh Nien, Nguyen Van Linh, Nguyen Luong Bang, Dien Bien Phu... when the Task Force was patrolling, people gathered to eat and drink, and cheer enthusiastically for the Vietnamese team. This atmosphere contrasted with the quiet, tireless patrolling of the police force. Both we and the police officers were a bit sad because we could not watch this match, but because of our duty, we still had to go.

At 8:00 p.m. on January 17, we arrived at the Gia Loc District Police Headquarters to follow Task Force 151 on patrol and control. Today's patrol included 6 police officers with traffic police, investigation police and Le Loi Commune police. We sat on the motorbike of Captain Nguyen Van Quyet, Head of Task Force 151, from the District Police Headquarters to provincial roads 393, 395 and then to Dong Mo area (Gia Loc town), where many restaurants, entertainment and shopping centers are located. Tonight, the temperature dropped and the wind was stronger. Sitting on the back of the police officers' motorbikes, we felt the cold that they had experienced many times.

The main roads of Gia Loc town are lined with shops selling flowers, ornamental plants, and all kinds of candy to serve the people. Grapefruit trees are laden with yellow fruit, apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, and many other species compete to show their colors. Sellers and buyers come and go busily, everyone feels happy and peaceful. While walking on the road, Captain Nguyen Van Quyet said: "During the days before Tet, on many main roads and shopping spots, people from all over the district flock to Gia Loc town to shop for Tet, especially in the evening. The patrol team focuses on these areas to prevent and handle acts of disturbing public order, theft, robbery, and snatching of property."

On the evening of January 17, Mr. Truong Quang Tung, from Dai Hop commune (Tu Ky) went to Gia Loc town to play. When he was riding a motorbike without a helmet, he was stopped by Task Force 151 of Gia Loc District Police for inspection. Mr. Tung said: "I had a helmet hanging on my motorbike but forgot to put it on. After being reminded by the police officer, I learned my lesson and immediately complied to both protect my safety and not violate the law."

During Tet, not only the provincial police force and district police but also the commune police force have overcome difficulties to step up patrols and controls to maintain peace for the people. In order to ensure safety during Tet, from December 30, 2022 to January 26, 2023, Cam Doai Commune Police (Cam Giang) will step up crime prevention and control, increasing patrols 24 hours a day, especially from 11 pm the night before to 4 am the next morning. "The commune police force coordinates to divide into two patrol teams, focusing on the time frame when people are easily off guard and criminals take advantage of loopholes to commit crimes, especially theft of property. Currently, the commune has nearly 200 workers from other localities staying in boarding houses for Tet, so we pay more attention to these points," said Major Pham Dinh Tan, Chief of Cam Doai Commune Police.
