According to the Hai Duong Provincial Statistics Office, Hai Duong's economic growth in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 10%. This is a high and positive growth rate, and it is forecasted that the province will reach and exceed the annual growth target (the target for 2024 is over 9%).
Economic growth in the first 6 months of 2024 of Hai Duong province ranked 7th in the country after the provinces and cities of Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Khanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Ha Nam, Tra Vinh; ranked 3rd in the Red River Delta after Hai Phong city and Ha Nam province.
The province's growth in the first quarter of 2024 reached 10.11%, and the growth in the second quarter was estimated at 9.91%. The growth in the second quarter was lower than the first quarter due to lower growth in agricultural, forestry and fishery production due to a decrease in fabric output. The growth in the industrial sector was lower due to a number of industries that had increased dramatically in the first quarter such as textiles, paper, rubber, and wooden furniture, which had slowed down. Construction activities were also significantly lower due to few new projects starting, and many projects transferred from the previous year had all their capital disbursed in the first quarter.
In the first 6 months of 2024, sector I (agriculture, forestry and fishery) is estimated to increase by 3.52%, ranking 26th in the country. Of which, livestock activities increased by 6.1%, aquaculture increased by 6.8%, winter crop and winter-spring rice productivity both increased. In particular, lychee output decreased by 21.8% compared to the previous crop.
Sector II (industry and construction) is estimated to increase by 13.71%, ranking 8th in the country and continuing to maintain growth momentum from the end of 2023. Most industries grew evenly, with only 2 industries producing products from other non-metallic minerals; repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment decreasing, but these 2 industries only accounted for 3.5% of industrial production value. Construction activities grew strongly in the first quarter, up 9.2%, but in the second quarter, they only increased by 5.7% due to a decline in residential construction activities and few new public investment projects starting.
Sector III (services) is estimated to grow by 6.9%, ranking 25th in the country. Growth in the second quarter is higher than in the first quarter but lower than in the fourth quarter of 2023. The reason is that household consumption has decreased due to inflationary pressure, financial and credit activities are difficult, and the real estate market is still sluggish.
