The Israeli military announced that its forces have resumed ground operations in the Rafah area, southern Gaza Strip, while continuing to maintain operations in several other areas of the territory.
“In the past few hours, soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have begun ground operations in the Shabura area of Rafah,” the Israeli military said in a statement. The army is also continuing ground operations in northern and central Gaza.
In addition, the Israeli military said its Air Force intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on the evening of March 20. The Israeli military announced that “following sirens that sounded in several areas a short time ago, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Air Force before it entered Israeli territory.” Israeli police confirmed that the missile set off sirens throughout Jerusalem and parts of the occupied West Bank.
The incident came as Yemen's Houthi forces resumed attacks on Israel after the Israeli military ended a two-month ceasefire with Palestinian militant group Hamas by launching air strikes across the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, according to the latest statistics from Gaza, the number of people killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the past 72 hours has increased to 591, in addition to 1,042 people injured.
Faced with tense developments on the ground, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on March 20 reiterated the urgent need to enforce a ceasefire in Gaza, while calling for international intervention to stop Israel's military activities and reopen border crossings to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
