Promoting the value of traditional festival of Khuc Thua Du temple (Ninh Giang)

Largest organization ever

This year, the traditional festival of Khuc Thua Du Temple in 2024 commemorating the 1,117th anniversary of the death of National Hero Khuc Thua Du has many new features. With the largest scale ever, the festival is organized by the People's Committee of Ninh Giang district for 3 days, from August 24-26 (from July 21-23, Giap Thin year).

Along with the larger ceremony and festival, the locality also organized an exhibition of dozens of OCOP products, typical products, and craft village products of communes and towns in the district; a banh chung wrapping contest and a chess tournament. The art program with many elaborate performances, including the performance of the cai luong play "Khuc Tien Chua"... On August 25, the Organizing Committee performed the ceremony of announcing and opening the Pure Land; organized a men's and women's volleyball tournament; and an art exchange program. On August 26, the opening ceremony, incense offering ceremony, and land firecrackers were held...

Mr. Bui Van Cuong, Chairman of Kien Quoc Commune People's Committee, said that in order to prepare well for the traditional festival in 2024, the locality has coordinated with many departments, offices, and the Khuc Family Council of Vietnam to prepare facilities, forces, and means. Kien Quoc Commune has strengthened coordination to ensure security, order, and traffic safety during the festival. At the same time, mobilize people in villages, union members, youth, and women to organize cleaning of village roads, alleys, and areas around Khuc Thua Du Temple and Cuc Bo Communal House.

Along with innovation and expansion of the festival, the Organizing Committee will tighten management, not allowing the situation of soliciting tourists to tell fortunes, burning a lot of votive paper, collecting illegal tickets, beggars, littering, etc.

With the expansion of the organization scale, the traditional festival of Khuc Thua Du temple in 2024 is expected to attract a large number of participants from the Central, provincial, district, and commune levels to descendants of the Khuc family near and far, eagerly returning to their homeland and their roots.

Attention to investment and renovation

​Khuc Thua Du Temple in Cuc Bo village, Kien Quoc commune was built 20 years ago. Bricks with the words Khuc Mieu engraved on them were found here - evidence that worship existed very early. The temple was built next to Cuc Bo communal house, the structures in the relic are made of "tu thiet" wood. The system of green stone reliefs creates a harmonious complex in the traditional architectural style, adding to the majesty and grandeur of the relic.

Local people take the death anniversary of Princess Khuc Thua Du (July 23rd of the lunar calendar) to organize a festival to show gratitude and commemorate the hero who built the country's independence and autonomy. Khuc Thua Du Temple was ranked as a national historical and cultural relic on July 8th, 2014.

In 2022, when some items of the relic were degraded, the People's Committee of Ninh Giang district invested nearly 1 billion VND to restore and repair. Also in 2022, the district invested more than 22 billion VND to widen the road from Provincial Road 396 to Khuc Thua Du Temple. Currently, the route from the East-West axis of Hai Duong province (coinciding with Provincial Road 396) turning to Khuc Thua Du Temple has been widened to 9 m, paved with asphalt concrete, creating favorable conditions for people and tourists from all over to visit Khuc Thua Du Temple, Cuc Bo traditional carpentry village...

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Van, Vice Chairman of Ninh Giang District People's Committee, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee said: “With a larger scale, the traditional festival of Khuc Thua Du Temple is held for 3 days with a solemn ceremony and a unique festival, becoming one of the typical traditional festivals of Kien Quoc Commune in particular and Ninh Giang District in general. Through the festival, everyone together recalls the merits of repelling foreign invaders and building independence and autonomy of the national heroes - the Three Lords of the Khuc family. This is also an opportunity for everyone to uphold the tradition and morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking", aiming to educate the tradition of patriotism and national pride for today's and future generations".
