At least eight people were injured when a suspected homemade bomb suddenly exploded at a cafe in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state, India, on March 1.
Local officials said the explosion occurred at the Rameshwaram cafe in the eastern city of Bengaluru at around 1 p.m. on March 1 as many office workers lined up to buy lunch.
Speaking to reporters, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: "It seems someone took a bag and left... The bag exploded... It was not a big explosion." Siddaramaiah also said investigators suspect it was a homemade explosive device.
Meanwhile, Home Minister G. Parameshwara said all the injured were receiving medical attention in hospital and none of them were seriously injured.
The founder and CEO of the Siddaramaiah cafe chain, Divya Raghavendra Rao, said she was informed of two explosions that occurred about 10 seconds apart in the hand-washing area. The cafe has provided CCTV footage to the police for investigation.
Mobile phone videos at the scene showed black smoke engulfing the cafe and a pillar inside the shop damaged by the impact of the explosion.
