The Department of Infectious Diseases at Hai Duong Children's Hospital has more than 10 children admitted to the department for treatment every day, of which more than 50% have hand, foot and mouth disease.
On August 25, the Department of Infectious Diseases was treating 40 patients, including 19 children with hand, foot and mouth disease, mainly children under 5 years old.
Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Thi Thuc, Director of the Children's Hospital, said: "The number of children with hand, foot and mouth disease admitted to the hospital is much higher than the same period last year. In addition to this disease, the hospital has recorded children with Mycoplasma bacteria causing severe pneumonia in children over 5 years old. This is a fairly common lung infection caused by Mycoplasma bacteria. The disease often breaks out into epidemics during the changing seasons, spreading through droplets when the patient coughs or sneezes..."
Statistics from the provincial Center for Disease Control show that there were 21 cases of the disease during the week of August 21-25. From January 1 to August 25, the province recorded 251 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of 10 cases compared to the same period last year. Most of the cases were children under 5 years old, however, no cases with serious complications have been recorded.
