Children in Hai Duong have signs of increasing acute diarrhea when the weather changes suddenly.
According to a representative of Hai Duong Children's Hospital, this December, the hospital received and screened 267 children with symptoms of acute diarrhea, including 82 severe cases requiring inpatient treatment. The number of children coming for examination and inpatient treatment is about 3 times higher than the same period last year. Acute diarrhea is increasing due to sudden changes in weather, large temperature differences between day and night, reducing resistance, causing the disease to spread rapidly in young children.
Of the inpatient cases, 31 were children under 2 years old, and the remaining 51 were over 2 years old. The development of acute diarrhea this year is unusual because this disease is common in children under 2 years old. Children with acute diarrhea caused by Rotavirus have symptoms of fever, vomiting, and frequent diarrhea. Vomiting appears before diarrhea.
Specialists at Hai Duong Children's Hospital recommend that when children show signs of fever, vomiting with abdominal pain or bloating, they should be examined and tested promptly to avoid excessive vomiting that can cause electrolyte disturbances. At the same time, parents should not self-treat at home to avoid complications of enteritis.
