To avoid flooding, many car showroom owners and residents in Hanoi are rushing to find parking spaces in elevated parking lots, but many lots are currently full.

The elevated parking lot in the Diplomatic Corps urban area is full of parking "spaces"

On the afternoon of September 11, Mr. Phan Van Canh, owner of Thai Binh Auto used car shop (400 Pham Van Dong) said he had just found a parking space in the high-rise building of the Diplomatic Urban Area (Xuan Dinh, Tu Liem, Hanoi) after many days of searching.

"The parking fee is reasonable, only 150,000 VND/day, the high-floor parking is dry and safe. But because there is no space, I can only bring 2 cars to one building, the rest have to be scattered to other buildings," said Mr. Canh.

The demand for parking cars at elevated parking lots in Hanoi has increased dramatically after flooding occurred in many places in the city. Especially, in the context of the Red River rising to level 3 after storm No. 3 swept through Hanoi on September 7, causing a lot of damage to car owners who parked on the street or in low-lying areas.

Many used car showrooms in the city have sent staff to all the buildings with high-rise parking lots to contact for daily parking. The prolonged rain and the rising water level of the Red River have made the car business community extremely worried.

Although it costs more, moving the car is still cheaper than leaving the entire fleet of cars flooded.

At Vinhomes Smart City urban area (Tay Mo, Hanoi), 4 10-storey parking buildings are now full of cars on all floors, while previously each of these buildings was often empty on the upper floors. According to a resident living here, a few days ago, the Urban Area Management Board sent a notice to residents to reserve 150 slots for people's cars parked on the sidewalk to avoid flooding. The parking fee here is maintained at 10,000 VND/hour and 240,000 VND/day.

Another building that also attracts a lot of people with cars is Keangnam Landmark 72 (Pham Hung Street, Me Tri Ward, Nam Tu Liem District) with 7 floors of parking. Mr. Le Xuan Bach - owner of a car showroom in Le Van Luong - said he has parked more than a dozen cars here for 350,000 VND/day.

At two large shopping centers, AEON Mall Long Bien and AEON Mall Ha Dong, there are multi-storey parking lots that are quite convenient and free during the day. However, in the past two days, there have been quite a few cars parked overnight. Mr. Luu Thang (Dai Mo, Hanoi) said that he usually parks his car in the corrugated iron roof lot, but after the storm and the rain in Hanoi, he felt worried and had to take his car to AEON Mall Ha Dong and accept the overnight parking fee of 450,000 VND because the parking buildings in Smart City were full.

In addition to high-rise parking buildings and shopping malls, some parking lots on Tran Nhat Duat and Nguyen Cong Hoan streets have also recorded an increase in the number of customers using the service. The parking fee here is equivalent to that of curbside parking, 25,000 VND/hour. These parking lots are designed according to the steel house model, using Korean technology with a lifting and horizontal movement mechanism using cables and chains, and specialized pallets. The time to pick up and park a car only takes 2 minutes for one car.

Many car owners who have gone to the trouble of parking their cars kilometers away from their homes said they are willing to pay more than usual, rather than let their cars be damaged by flooding. They will park their cars until the rain stops and the Red River is no longer at alarming levels.
