Mr. Luxon shared the above information when interacting with more than 200 students of Foreign Trade University on the morning of February 26. The atmosphere of the meeting was close and lively as he encouraged students to ask questions.

Regarding concerns about scholarships, Mr. Luxon said that Vietnam is the first country that New Zealand offers scholarships to at both high school, university, and postgraduate (masters and doctoral) levels.

Specifically, the NZSS high school scholarships for Vietnamese students in grades 8-10 in 2025 include 45 scholarships, the most ever. The Manaaki scholarship at the postgraduate level has increased from 25-30 scholarships in previous years to 39 scholarships. This year's undergraduate scholarships (NZUA) are the first, including 14 scholarships. These scholarships are worth 50-100% of tuition fees and expenses for international students when studying in New Zealand.

"We are expanding, increasing by 56% the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students because you are very suitable and can contribute a lot to the academic education environment, as well as to New Zealand," said Prime Minister Luxon.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is on an official visit to Vietnam and attending the second ASEAN Future Forum from February 25 to 28 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Speaking to Foreign Trade University students, Mr. Luxon said that this year the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and education remains one of the important cooperation priorities.

New Zealand is developing STEM (Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics), Economics, Medicine, AI and these are also fields that Vietnam is interested in and international students love.

"We have eight universities in the top 2% of the world's highest quality universities. If Vietnamese students want to experience high-quality English education, New Zealand is one of the notable destinations," he said.

There are currently about 1,700 Vietnamese students studying in New Zealand. Mr. Luxon expects this number to continue to increase in the future.
