"Pink Autumn" in the ancient capital of Korea

According to VnExpress October 31, 2023 18:54

Autumn in Gyeongju province is not only characterized by the yellow color of ginkgo leaves and the red color of maple leaves, but also the pink color of muhly grass.

Gyeongju, the ancient capital of Korea's Shilla Dynasty, is known as an open-air historical museum without walls. One of the most popular destinations in Gyeongju is Cheomsongdae, the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia. The observatory dates back to the 7th century during the Silla Dynasty and is one of the 31 national treasures of Korea.

Every autumn, Gyeongju becomes poetic with the largest pink grass field located right next to Cheomsongdae, attracting a large number of tourists to admire, take photos and learn more about the history of the Silla dynasty.

This pink grass species is called muhly, and it changes color around the beginning of October every year. The pink color of the muhly grass makes the scene here magical and unreal.

The special thing about this grass is that the pink color will change according to the sunlight. When the weather is sunny, the grass will be light pink. When the weather is cloudy, the grass turns purple-pink. Therefore, at each time of the day, visitors will be able to admire different colors of grass.

Arriving in Gyeongju on October 20, on the way from the KTX (high-speed train) station to the hotel, Nguyen Tran Hieu (27 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) and a group of friends passed by the pink grass field in the Cheomsongdae Astronomical Monument relic complex.

The next day, the group rearranged their schedule and took the time to visit this pink grass garden. "Standing in the middle of the grass garden as tall as a person, it felt like being immersed in a magical sea of pink," he said.

In Vietnam, there are also some hills and pink grass fields that are loved by young people, but Mr. Hieu has not had the opportunity to visit them. This trip was the first time he had seen pink grass in real life.

Hieu said the pink grass field here is wide enough to create a picturesque photo effect.

According to Mr. Hieu's experience, visitors should walk around first to find the best and most suitable shooting angle for themselves. They should use zoom or portrait mode to blur the background, making the scene more blurry and poetic. They should move while pressing the camera to produce the most natural photos.

In addition to the pink grass carpet, Mr. Hieu was equally impressed with the garden of white-flowered pampas grass. According to his observations, these are the two places that attract the most tourists to check in and take photos.

Gyeongju is 276 km from Seoul and 76 km from Busan. If you come from Busan, you can go and return in a day.

Cheomsongdae Astronomical Monument is located in the heart of Gyeongju, so visitors can easily get there by bus or taxi. In addition to the pink lawn, the relic site also has gardens and flower beds with many varieties and colors.

Visitors can also rent Hanbok (traditional Korean costume) in the relic complex to transform into young ladies and gentlemen of the ancient Silla dynasty, take photos, walk around, and sightsee.
