For the past two weeks, Nam Cum village, Ngoi Cay commune, Muong Ang district has been causing a stir on social media with its fairy-tale-like scenery. The simple houses of the Mong ethnic group appear and disappear among the ancient Ban flower forest, blooming white under the sunlight.

There are about 1,200 ancient Bauhinia trees here. The households live on a rather steep mountainside, each house is divided into layers clinging to the concrete road that curves between the village like a fish bone.

Bauhinia flowers mainly grow naturally, are tens to hundreds of years old, have discolored, rough roots, and are 50 - 60 cm in diameter.

Mr. Thien Nguyen, a photography enthusiast, living in Dien Bien, has been to Nam Cum many times over the past month, since the season of Bauhinia flowers blooming. "The Bauhinia roots here are rough, stained with time, the flowers bloom pure white, pure, showing a strong vitality. Each Bauhinia tree has a different shape and characteristics. That completely natural beauty makes me surprised every time I come here, giving me new emotions to compose," said Mr. Thien.

According to local people, the ban season usually lasts more than 1 month (March to April). Previously, few people knew about the ancient ban forest in Nam Cum, but in the past 2 years, photos of this place have become a hit, attracting tourists to come and admire. Under the tree canopy, the Mong people have built temporary shelters for tourists to rest, sightsee, and take photos.

According to Mr. Thien, currently some households in the village also serve food and drink to tourists but they are still simple and clumsy. "People have never done tourism before so they lack experience. However, people are friendly, hospitable and very enthusiastic," he said.

During a recent 4-day trip to Dien Bien, Ms. Dung (Hanoi) spent time visiting Nam Cum. When entering the village, she felt like "lost in a fairy tale world": white Ban flowers blooming, showing off their colors in the mountains and forests, intertwined with the green of young rice. "The people in the village are still poor, no household has a homestay, but they really respect and protect the ancient Ban trees. That impressed and moved me," Ms. Dung shared.

Ms. Dieu Hue has been a daughter-in-law in Dien Bien for several years, and is very familiar with the blooming seasons of Ban flowers. However, the first time she came to Nam Cum, she was still surprised by the rustic, pristine scenery here. "The first time I saw an ancient Ban tree, several people could barely hug it. The color of the flowers was pure white, poetic, no words could describe its beauty," she said.
